Birmingham is one of the top cities in the world, attracting over 34million visitors a year.
Well connected and centrally located, Birmingham is the second largest city in the UK with one of the youngest, most diverse populations in the country. With more than one million residents, Birmingham is the largest of the British core cities. The City makes a significant contribution to the UK economy and has been voted the UK’s most entrepreneurial city outside of London.
Birmingham is a dynamic, creative, constantly evolving city and last year a record number of tourists visited to sample the metropolis’ authentic cultural offering, superb food and fantastic shopping. The City is surrounded by some of the most beautiful countryside in the UK and the region provides the perfect backdrop to the Vélo Birmingham weekend.
Vélo Birmingham is the flagship event of the Birmingham Cycle Revolution, an exciting Birmingham City Council initiative to inspire more people to cycle in and around the City, making Birmingham healthier, greener, safer and far less congested. The event is wholly funded by the event organisers and will help the Council raise awareness for its ambitions to get the City riding. In addition, a proportion of the revenue generated by Vélo Birmingham goes directly towards helping the Council fund the Birmingham Cycle Revolution.
The volume of riders and their families staying overnight in Birmingham and spending locally on the event weekend drives genuine economic benefit for the City, and the weekend also provides a platform for national and local charities to raise millions of pounds for good causes.
Vélo Birmingham is set to become one of Europe’s biggest sportives and cycling festivals and further boost the City’s growing reputation for hosting world class sporting events.
