The Route

Review the 2017 Vélo Birmingham route…

Starting on Broad Street in the heart of Birmingham, Vélo Birmingham’s 100 mile fully closed road route took 15,000 riders on a breathtaking journey from city to country, passing through the stunning counties of Staffordshire and Worcestershire via Sandwell and Dudley.

With circa 2,000m of climbing, it was a challenging route, but the combination of spectacular scenery, quaint local villages and the incredible support right along the route made for a truly unforgettable day of closed road riding.

Upon crossing the finish line on Broad Street to the adulation of the assembled crowds, riders rolled down to the impressive Arena Birmingham where they received a hard earned medal before celebrating their fantastic achievement with fellow riders, friends and family (and a free Purity Brewery beer!)

This route had been years in the planning with five local authorities, emergency services and transport operators. We are extremely proud to have secured a spectacular 100 mile route that showcased the very best of the Midlands and would like to thank the local residents, businesses and stakeholders who not only allowed us to close their roads, but also gave our riders such a spectacular reception.
