The Ride

100 miles. Closed roads. 15,000 cyclists. Take part in 2019.

On September 24 2017, the Midlands played host to 15,000 cyclists who took on the unforgettable 100 mile route on completely closed roads at the inaugural Vélo Birmingham. Starting and finishing in the heart of Birmingham city centre, riders of all levels of ability enjoyed a spectacular journey through the rolling Midlands countryside, passing through towns and villages filled with thousands of cheering spectators.

Working with our partners Birmingham City Council, we’ve made some exciting changes to the second edition of the event, including moving to a new Spring date in 2019 and developing a brand new route. These changes will enable us to achieve our collective ambition of securing the long term sustainability of Vélo Birmingham and growing it into one of the world’s biggest and most iconic cycling events.

We’ll still have 100 miles of fully closed roads along with the epic city centre start and finish, but thanks to the extra daylight hours and improved route infrastructure we’ll be able to deliver an even more incredible experience to ensure that every single one of our riders achieves their goal and reaches the finish line in good time for that ice cold free beer!

We’ll be releasing full details of the new route and date shortly. To be in with a chance of riding the next Vélo Birmingham, you must pre-register. Click on the button below to be the first to hear about the next edition.
